Mass Effect Andromeda: Mistakes that CANNOT be repeated

With the impending release of Mass Effect Andromeda, we take a look at some of the dismal mistakes from previous entries in the series that CANNOT be repeated if Andromeda is to be a success. NOTE: Spoilers ahead.

1. The MAKO Controls

I think this point is self-explanatory for anyone who played the original Mass Effect. The driving aspect of the game, while a fun distraction from the intense main story-driven plotline, was an absolute chore to get through. The Mako had a mind of its own, seemingly hitting off every surface while the camera angle constantly changed and having controls so difficult to master that many just buttoned mashed their way to the end of the mission. While it is confirmed the Mako will return in Andromeda, let’s just hope Bioware has spent more time fine tuning how it controls than they did originally.

3. The Ending (Of Course)

Who guessed this was going to be mentioned? In order to be a success, Andromeda’s ending basically has to do everything the third instalment didn’t. So what do we want? A satisfying conclusion to all of our favourite character’s story arcs? An intense final mission? An epic endgame? Seeing what happens to our main protagonist and the universe we invested so much time in? Basically yes to all of the above. In our humble opinion, the ending of a game is the most important thing. The icing on the cake. An unsatisfying ending can leave a sour taste in your mouth, and (despite how the rest of the game played) makes you think negatively of the whole experience. This is going to be the most important aspect of Andromeda, and the one it is crucial it gets right come March 21st.

2. Multiplayer

Now this is a massive area of controversy among Mass Effect fans. When multiplayer first came to Mass Effect in the third instalment it completely divided opinions. We personally had no problem with the multiplayer aspect of the game. We found it to be a fun addition to the game that was very enjoyable in small doses. However, what we (and most fans) hated was the fact that progression in multiplayer had a direct impact on the ending you were able to receive in single player. In other words, Multiplayer in Mass Effect was a necessity for players who wanted the best ending whether they enjoyed it or not. Please Bioware, do NOT make the Mass Effect multiplayer in Andromeda have an effect on the single player campaign…not again…
